Planning application fees

Who sets planning application fees?

Planning application fees are set by Central Government for planning consent. The fees can be complex and are often dependent upon the nature of the development proposed. The fee calculator on the Planning Portal will help you to find out the cost of your planning application. It takes the form of a series of 'yes' or 'no' answers from which data is compiled to calculate the total cost of the application, ranging from a simple householder development, to large scale schemes, such as housing schemes, or industrial estates.

See what is costs on the Planning Portal for details on how to apply for planning permission, link to online fee calculator and download the PDF of 'A guide to Planning Application fees in England'.

How do I pay?

Pay your planning application fee or pre-planning advice fee online

Pay for your planning application by debit/credit card. The closure of our offices due to outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) means it is not possible to pay by cheque at Mansion House.

Please remember to include your fee payment, otherwise your application will not be valid.

If you have any further queries about planning, there is always a Duty Officer available between 10am and 1pm, Monday to Friday. If you wish to contact a specific officer, see contact Development Management.
