Squatters

A squatter is a person who enters and occupies property without permission from the person entitled to possession of the property. That person could be an owner, tenant or license.

See squatting and the law on GOV.UK for an overview on squatting, squatting in non-residential properties and squatters' rights to property. There is also information on stopping squatters legally possessing property, removing squatters and where to get help.

Report squatting

Report a problem to Eden Housing Association if there are squatters in former council housing properties.

See housing associations for contact details to report squatters in another associations' properties.

For squatters in private properties please tell the owner of the property.

Contact Cumbria Constabulary for advice, as squatting is a criminal offence.
