Disabled facilities grants

Disabled people living in Eden who are in need of aids or alterations to their home may be eligible for a disabled facilities grant. This grant is also available for elderly persons who are struggling with mobility. The aim of this grant is to help maintain people’s independence in their own home for as long as possible.

Example of works carried out under grant:

  • Stair lifts
  • Level access shower facilities
  • Ramps
  • Making the property wheelchair accessible
  • Specialist toilet facilities

See the Housing Assistance and Disabled Grant Policy (PDF: 228 Kb /19 pages) for further guidance and advice for older, disabled or vulnerable clients.

How to apply for a disabled facilities grant

Before you can apply for a disabled facilities grant you need a recommendation from either a Social Social Care staff or Carer's organisation see:

Assessments for care

What will a grant cost me?

Disabled facilities grant contribution calculations are based on complex guidance legislated by the Government. A Test of Resources (or means test) will calculate what, if any, contribution you make to the cost of the adaptation work. Children’s applications and applicants on certain benefits are not means tested.
