Great Big Green Week

This month from 18 to 26 September, communities across the UK will join together for Great Big Green Week: touted as the UK’s biggest ever event for climate and nature, to help build momentum for COP26.

Grassroots events across the country will celebrate how communities are taking action to tackle climate change and protect nature, to encourage others to get involved, and to show the groundswell of support for ambitious climate action.

The week is organised by The Climate Coalition.

Visit www.greatbiggreenweek.com to see what is happening in your area and for advice on planning your own event.

In Penrith, two events are taking place during the week:

  • Penrith Freegle Give and Take - Saturday 18 September, 2 to 4pm. Eden Arts, The Old Fire Station, Penrith.
This event is all about reducing waste and making better use of resources in our community. It’s a bit like a free jumble sale. Bring small items to give away – and take what you want! Everything must be free.
  • PACT Climate Change Stall – Extreme Weather - Saturday 25 September, 10.30am to 3pm. The Bandstand, Cornmarket, Penrith.

Community volunteer group Penrith Action for Community Transition (PACT) is running a town centre stall on the theme of extreme weather. Find out what PACT is doing, and what you can do, to help turn the tide on the climate and ecological emergencies.
