Applications open Eden-wide for Kirkby Stephen affordable homes

Eden District Council has four outstanding, affordable homes available at the new Thomas Wharton Meadows development in Kirkby Stephen.

There’s a limited number of people on the Council’s Affordable Homes Register that qualify for these properties. As a result, Eden District Council is encouraging people from across Eden district, who are need of affordable housing, to come forward and get their details on the register.

Affordable housing provides a route to home ownership for local people who may not have been able to afford normal market prices in the past.

It’s the last chance to apply: the deadline for applications for these affordable homes is 5pm on Tuesday 10 August 2021.

The Homes

Maytree Construction Ltd has developed a small estate of 16 two, three and four bedroomed houses in the Christian Head area of Kirkby Stephen.

There are four two bedroomed, semi-detached houses on the development which are designated (under legal agreement) as affordable homes for people in the local community. This means they are being sold at a discounted rate of 40% below the open market value; i.e. £120,000 per property.

For details of the properties (these are called ‘The Berkett’) please visit the Maytree Website for further information at

To be considered, you will need to have a local connection, be in housing need and this must be the only property you own. More details on requirements and eligibility can be found at:

If you are not already on the Council’s register you will need to complete a registration form, found on the Discounted Sales section of the Eden District Council website at You will then then have to apply to be considered for the properties.

The closing date for submissions is 5pm on Tuesday 10 August 2021. Any applications received after this date will only be considered if a property remains available.
