What is so special about Gazetteers GIS Day?
‘Everything happens somewhere’ and the role of the Local Land and Property Custodian, Local Street Custodian and Street Naming and Numbering Officer (SNN) is to make sure that everyone knows where that ‘somewhere’ is.
There is a community of Custodians and SNN Officers right across England and Wales who manage address and street information for the benefit of their own Council, as well as the wider public sector and the emergency services.
This is why, on 14 November 2018, 118 Councils will be celebrating Gazetteers@GIS Day with stands, demonstrations, promotions, quizzes, chocolate and lots of cake!
Here, at Eden District Council, we plan to let people know more about the data and the benefits it can bring to your service or function.
This year, Eden District Council won two awards for address data, a Gold performance award in recognition of the management of the address information database and ‘Winner of Best Address Data’ in the North West Region, which is a great achievement for any local Council.
In the run-up to the next census in 2021, accurate address data will have a big impact for the funding of our Council, as described in this document ‘The 2021 Census, the Revenue Support Grant, and UPRNs’.
In the meantime, if you would like to find out a little more about the use of the address and street data we maintain, download the information sheet Celebrating the work of Custodians and SNN Officers.
