I was always under the impression that the field known as fair hill in Appleby was rented by a traveller for a week from Appleby Town Council.
The traveller takes rent from the travellers who stay on this hill.
Please could you advise if any of the money collected is paid to the council to help with the clean up, fair costs or police costs?
Could I ask how much and what it is used to pay for?
I understand that the field is owned by Appleby Town Council and rented by a traveller. I have no further details about the commercial arrangements. None of the rent that is paid to Appleby Town Council is passed on to Eden District Council in respect of clean up, fair costs or police costs. As a point of detail Cumbria Police’s costs in respect of the response to the Fair are borne entirely from Cumbria Police’s budget
