Housing SPD

We are currently consulting on a draft Housing SPD until 25 October 2019. This will eventually replace the 2010 Housing SPD, which is now out-of-date. Both documents can be found on this page.

Background

We have produced the Housing SPD to provide detailed guidance on the interpretation of policies in the Eden Local Plan 2014-2032 that relate to housing. This will assist applicants and decision makers in the practical application of local plan policy. The Housing SPD will be a material consideration in the determination of planning applications. The Housing SPD adds detail to policies in the Eden Local Plan, it does not create new policy nor allocate further sites for development.

We will make the documents available at the Council Offices as well as the Local Links and Libraries across the district.

We welcome comments on the draft Housing SPD before 5pm on 25 October 2019.

Please send your comments to the Planning Policy Team at Eden District Council:

Current Housing SPD

The Executive Meeting, on 2 November 2010, adopted the Supplementary Planning Document on Housing. The purpose of the SPD is to create a positive approach to delivering affordable housing to meet local needs particularly in rural areas. The document aims to increase the potential sources of supply of affordable housing across the whole of Eden District that lies outside the Lake District National Park. The Council will use this SPD to determine planning applications.

You can download the SPD below. You can also download the Adoption Statement and a Consultation Statement prepared under Regulation 18 (4)(b). This outlines a summary of the comments we received during public consultation on the SPD and how we amended the final SPD as a result. Alternatively, paper copies of these documents are available to view at Alston, Appleby, Kirkby Stephen, Penrith, Shap and Lazonby.
