Heating System Service and Repair Grant - Discretionary Grant

It is important to have your heating system serviced each year, to reduce the risk of your boiler breaking down and leaving you with no hot water or heating.

The Heating System Service and Repair Grant provides financial assistance to vulnerable homeowners who are unable to meet the cost of servicing or maintaining their domestic heating systems.

Eligibility for heating system service and repair grant

 A person is eligible to apply for a Heating System Service and Repair Grant if they:

  • are an owner-occupier whose sole residence is within Eden District Council, and
  • are aged over 18, and
  • are in receipt of a “passported” benefit as follow:
    • universal Credit
    • income Support
    • guarantee Pension Credit (excluding Savings Credit)
    • housing Benefit
    • council Tax Reduction (Local scheme)
    • working or Child Tax Credits where the income for tax credits award purposes are below £15,050
    • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
    • income-related Employment and Support Allowance, or
    • Have a gross household income (excluding non-dependents) of less than £31,000 per annum and savings less than £16,000.

What works are eligible for a grant?

The Heating System Service and Repair grant applies to domestic oil, gas and electric heating systems and will cover the following measures:

  • Servicing and repair costs up to £750 (including VAT).
  • The Heating System Service and Repair Grant will not fund, or part fund, new heating systems.

How to apply for a grant?

  1. Complete the Heating System Service and Repair Grant application form (PDF: 313 Kb / 5 pages),
    alternatively complete the Heating System Service and Repair Grant (Word document: 90 Kb / 5 pages).
  2. You will be advised whether you qualify for the Heating System Service and Repair Grant subject to passing the eligibility criteria.
  3. Before arrangements have been made for the work to be carried out Eden District Council must be advised who the chosen engineer is. Appropriate checks will be made to establish that the chosen heating engineer is either Gas Safe or Hetas registered as appropriate.
  4. Payment will be made direct to the client on receipt of the invoice and proof of payment. The grant payment will be for a maximum of £750 including VAT.

Grant availability

The grant is only available until 31 March 2023 or until funds are no longer available.

Grants will be assessed on a first come first served basis.
