Eden visitor numbers

The new 2016 STEAM (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor) research figures have now been published and we are delighted that the value and volume of tourism continues to grow and help strengthen the economy of Eden.

The 2016 STEAM report shows that the Eden District benefited from an increase on the number of visitors, their spend and the number of FTE (full time equivalent jobs) supported by Tourism.

In 2016:

  • Eden attracted 4.77 million tourism visits (visitor numbers up 3.0% on 2015)
  • A massive £309.41 million being generated within the local economy through visitor and tourism business expenditure (an increase of 3% on 2015)
  • Tourism accounted for more than 4,283 full-time equivalent jobs in Eden (an increase of 0.9% on 2015)

These increases are particularly positive, especially when we take into account the flooding in 2015 and the subsequent effects in 2016.
