Bulky household waste collection

Bulky household waste is free-standing furniture that is too big to go into a blue refuse sack. We will collect up to three items of large furniture from outside your home for £29.70. However, we would encourage you, where possible, to sell or give furniture away that is reusable.

Is the furniture reusable?

Read about bulky household waste collections for items you cannot use again. For what to do with reusable items, see below.

Reusable items

To give away furniture you do not want, advertise it free of charge on Freegle, take it to a charity furniture shop or, if it is too large to fit in a car, a charity may collect it from your home.

Freegle

Advertise items on the Penrith and Eden District Freegle website, free of charge, for furniture, electrical items and all items listed under 'bulky household waste' (below). Items must not be contaminated with biological waste.

Eden Valley Hospice

View the furniture shop location on the Eden Valley Hospice website, where you can take furniture to donate to the hospice, for them to sell to raise funds for the work they do.

British Heart Foundation

Go to the British Heart Foundation's website, to find out more about their free furniture and electrical appliance collection service.

Reuse organisations

View the list of reuse organisations on the recycle Cumbria website, for details of all the organisations who will take furniture to sell.

Damaged or broken items

You can take and dispose of broken furniture at a household waste recycling centre.

If you cannot take furniture away, you can arrange for a bulky household waste collection.
