Local Strategic Partnership (LSP)

Eden Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) was formed in November 2005 to improve key service delivery in Eden. Its purpose was to ensure that the public, private, voluntary and community sectors 'joined-up' their activities so that the public could enjoy the best possible quality of life in the Eden area. The LSP was made up of more than 130 private, public, voluntary, community and faith organisations.

In Spring 2011, the Local Strategic Partnership decided that it was necessary for the group to develop its role to better reflect the needs of its communities. Over the next few months, the LSP will evolve into the Eden Community Partnership which will have representation from a wide range of organisations and communities throughout Eden. A Community Conference will be held on the 26 November 2011 to begin gathering views on how the Eden Community Partnership should operate and the projects that it should be involved in delivering. More details will be made available on the Council's website in the near future.

It is likely that the Eden Community Partnership will concern itself with three main functions:

  • Community Development Plan - ensuring that there is a fit for purpose Plan that reflects community need and ambition. The Community Development Plan will replace the Eden Sustainable Community Strategy and will initially focus its efforts on the rural areas within Eden. The reasoning behind this is that currently the main town of Penrith is supported by the Vitality of Penrith Group. It is expected that the Eden Community Partnership will refer to the Sustainable Community Strategy when developing the Community Development Plan. The Eden Sustainable Strategy is available towards the bottom of this page.
  • Networking - ensuring communities have clear access to information and contacts so they are able to operate efficiently.
  • Project Delivery - Ensuring actions within the Community Development Plan are delivered in a timely manner alongside communities.

The LSP was responsible for a range of projects which benefitted local communities in Eden, below are just a sample of the initiatives the LSP concerned itself with.

Myths about Migrant Workers Leaflet

Eden LSP produced a leaflet about migrant workers' rights and responsibilities. The leaflet aimed to raise local residents' awareness of migrant workers' rights and responsibilities and the benefits they are entitled to. See migrant workers' information to read the text from this leaflet or for additional information see migrant workers' useful contacts.

Mobile Services in Eden

Mobile services help some of Eden's residents access the services they need without having to travel out of their communities. Making information available about mobile services was one area that helped the LSP to deliver against one of its priorities - ensuring equitable access to services.

Keep Warm in Winter

A household is considered to be in fuel poverty if they need to spend more than 10% of their income to achieve adequate warmth for health and comfort. The LSP worked collaboratively with Schools, NHS, PCT, Voluntary Organizations, Police, Housing Associations and Cumbria County Council to tackle fuel poverty. The LSP did this by informing and enabling residents in Eden to maintain and achieve health and comfort through adequate warmth within their homes during winter. For more information see 'Winter Warmth'.
