Sign Up for Schools Amateur Boxing Sessions

Eden District Council working in partnership with the Penrith Amateur Boxing Club will be offering a new programme for young people in Eden District.

The Schools Amateur Boxing courses are a non contact form of boxing which aims to provide participants with the opportunity to develop their boxing technique in a FUN, safe and structured environment.

The courses will be delivered by ABA qualified coaches and will cater for both boys and girls aged from 8-18. The non contact boxing classes will include fitness games and skills drills and allow the participants to use pads and gloves.

Penrith Amateur Boxing Club operates a junior structure and has been successful in developing young boxers in the Eden area. Boxing coach Steven Sharkey will lead the boxing sessions and aims to encourage young people to become interested further in the sport.

Ian Parker, Eden District Council’s Assistant Leisure Officer said: “The Council is delighted to be able to offer this programme in conjunction with Penrith Amateur Boxing Club. The courses provide additional opportunities for young people in the local area to take part in sport.

The courses which are non contact will engage young people in a well structured fun environment, which will promote fitness, nutrition and introduce young people to the skills of boxing. The staff delivering the courses are all experienced ABA qualified coaches who will encourage all young people to benefit from their involvement in the activities provided.’”

The activities will be running at Penrith Leisure Centre and for people wanting additional information then contact Eden District Council on 01768 817817 for booking advice or 01768 212474 for further advice on the course content.
