Credit Crunch

Very few people or businesses appear to be immune from the effects of the Credit Crunch. The Council is no exception having seen the New Squares Development at Southend Road delayed due to funding problems caused by the global financial situation.

However, we recognise that residents and businesses may need help during these difficult times. It is hoped that these web pages for residents and businesses will provide useful advice on a range of services that are offered by the Council. There are also links to other agencies who can offer support and advice.

Keep Well - Keep Warm 2009

A household is considered to be in fuel poverty if they need to spend more than 10% of their income to achieve adequate warmth for health and comfort.

Ruralcity Media February 2009, said rates of fuel poverty are twice as high in rural areas compared to urban areas. Despite Government promises to eradicate fuel poverty, the reality is that the number of families in fuel poverty has shot up this year and is set to rise even further. One in five families in rural areas are struggling to keep warm. Eden District has the highest rate of fuel poverty in Cumbria.

To assist Eden residents in keeping warm this winter, Eden Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) has distributed resource packs on how to ‘Heat & Eat’ this winter. Working in partnership with Schools, NHS, Voluntary Organizations, Police, Housing Associations and Cumbria County Council over 3,500 packs were distributed to those with disabilities, families and older people.
