Business reception heralds closer working between Council and employers

Businesses from across Eden District are invited to attend a Special Reception starting at 6pm on Tuesday 31 January at the Stoneybeck Inn near Penrith, hosted by the District Council. At the event the Council will be outlining their plans for the local economy over the next two years, and seek to forge closer links with the local business community through new Business Ambassador, Councillor Debra Wicks.

Councillor Wicks said: "The Reception event is an opportunity for the Council and the business community to start to work more closely together and for the Council to gain a better understanding of local business needs and to convey their programme of economic activity over the next two years.

"Undoubtedly we are in challenging economic times and it can only be beneficial for the Council and the business community to work together to address the challenges and opportunities facing the economy in our towns and rural areas. The Council has many positive opportunities and services for business at the heart of our Corporate Plan,  such as planning and development, tourism, leisure and environmental health functions that I am sure companies can and will embrace, starting with a proposed Apprenticeship Scheme to support local businesses and get people into careers.  Youth employment in Eden is a key focus area for both employers and Council alike."

The Reception Event is open to companies from all business sectors and areas of Eden. It is an opportunity for networking and to help devise ideas and plans for a vibrant Eden economy in the future.

Eden District Council's Planning and Economy Portfolio Holder, Councillor Malcolm Smith said: “The Council is very keen to work and engage with the business community more closely and the start of a new year is the ideal time to move this important relationship forward. By inviting local companies to a Business Reception we can start with positive way forward and I hope many are able to attend.

"2012 is going to be significant year in the lives of many businesses and as a local authority we are keen to help businesses in Eden to continue to grow and expand as they meet the challenges of the future."

The Business Reception is being held at The Stoneybeck Inn near Penrith from 6pm on 31 January 2012.  Places at the Business Reception are offered on a first come first served basis, to secure your place contact Louise Fawcett at Eden District Council telephone: 01768 212133 or email: louise.fawcett@eden.gov.uk
