Summer seems a long time ago as the winds and rain have come to Cumbria over the past 24 hours. Driving up the M6 to Eden over the summer months has been a great pleasure seeing the wonderful hills and valleys which are truly a remarkable sight. It is the view that all tourists and visitors see when they use that route. As I have attended meetings in other parts of the county and also in West Yorkshire, driving to and from them provides equal pleasure in recognising the beautiful part of the country that we are fortunate to live and work in. It is clearly understandable why so many millions of people come to the Lakes each year and in particular the Eden Valley whether for day trips or longer stays.
Tourists and visitors come to the Eden Valley for many different reasons at all times of the year. This provides opportunities for the tourist industry and the retail centres including across the Eden District including Penrith to maximise the benefits that can be derived. The free parking Fridays during August in Penrith was one way the Council had of assisting with attracting people into the town and working with the business community to achieve that.
Whilst the natural landscape does not change in different seasons, the views of it does as I have witnessed over the past six months. This provides for visitors the opportunity to see the same landscape in different ways. The attraction of this is something that has to be seen to be enjoyed. Those people who have visited Eden earlier in the year come back to see how the appearance of the landscape changes with changing seasons and for those who have not been here this year then take the opportunity to come and enjoy what is on offer. Eden Valley and its towns and centres has much to offer don’t miss out!
