Penrith City in Australia was named after Penrith in Cumbria. The formal Sister City Agreement between Penrith, Cumbria and Penrith, New South Wales, was signed at a Civic Reception on 23 November 1989 when the then Chairman of Eden District Council, Councillor Mac Carlyle, was on holiday in New South Wales.
