Rules of Entry
Eden Local Heroes Awards are only open to those people who live, work or volunteer in the Eden District Council area.
One entry form per category must be submitted. Applicants can be nominated for more than one category but will be eligible to win only one award.
The judges will shortlist two entries per award who will receive two invites to a Special Civic Reception Event on Friday 27 April 2012 where the winners will be announced.
The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Eden District Councillors and officers are not eligible to be nominated for Local Heroes Awards.
Past winners of Local Heroes Awards cannot be nominated again in the same category of entry.
Please get permission from the nominee before submitting. Once the nomination is received, this will be taken to mean that the information given can be used in press/publicity related to the awards. For nominees under 16 years of age, parent/guardian consent is required.
Awards Criteria
Nominations under each category will be considered by the Judges Panel against the following criteria:
- gone that 'extra mile' in showing determination/commitment to achieve their goal;
- the level of impact their work/project has achieved
- whether it has inspired others to become involved;
- the level of community involvement achieved;
- undertaking voluntary work/involvement with voluntary organisations;
- care and dedication shown to others;
- fund raising;
- working to a specific goal in their area of interest (award etc);
- overcoming barriers to achieve their aim;
- working with other partners; and getting groups to work together for benefit of local area.
Judging Panel
The Judging Panel will consist of:
- The Chief Executive, Eden District Council
- Councillor Joan Raine, Chairman, Eden District Council
- Colin Maughan, Editor, Cumberland and Westmorland Herald
