Violent Crime

A violent crime is a crime in which the offender uses or threatens to use violent force upon the victim. These crimes can range from robbery, murder and sexual offences to common assault. The most common cause of violent crime in our area is alcohol.

The Task group has been committed to reducing alcohol related violent crime over previous years and ensuring that the night time economy is a safe place. Through successful interventions and Partnership working the number of crimes recorded in licensed premises has reduced by 15% across Carlisle and Eden.

Early interventions and multi-agency operations targeting alcohol and substance misuse are at the fore front of this task group. Using a combination of prevention, education and enforcement it is hoped by stopping anti-social behaviour and alcohol related offences early, then serious violent crime will decrease further.

Further information on the interventions we use can be found in the task group action plan.
