Walking Events 2012

Throughout January and February - Appleby Town and Riverside Walk with a Blue Badge Guide. Every Tuesday until 28th February. Duration of each walk: 1.5 to 2 hours.

May 

13th - The Fred Whitton Challenge

The Fred Whitton Challenge is a gruelling 112 mile sportive challenge ride for charity around the Lake District, run in memory of Fred Whitton. It starts and finishes at Coniston, and the route includes the climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott and Wrynose passes. 3rd - The Yomp Mountain Challenge, Kirkby Stephen

The Full Yomp Mountain Challenge involves a run, or walk, of 23 miles, traversing the beautiful Cumbrian fells in the Upper Eden Valley near Kirkby Stephen. For those preferring a gentler aim, there are routes of 11.5 miles (Half Yomp) and 6.5 miles (Short Yomp). Full details are available on www.yomp.org

2nd - Helvellyn Triathlon

This is a very challenging race which includes a 1 mile swim in Ullswater, a 38 mile cycle ride - including the Kirkstone Pass and a 9 mile run up Helvellyn (3118 feet.) For further information visit the Trihard website

22nd to 30th - Ullswater Outdoor Festival

The Festival will include a series of free guided walks with Lake District National Park Rangers.
