Upfront Gallery, near Hutton in the Forest has secured Arts Council funding to build a new Puppet Theatre and Museum: the first purpose built theatre of its kind in England.
The £300,000 theatre will have flexible seating for up to 140 people which it is hoped will attract touring puppet theatre groups, hold workshops and include a young people's theatre company.The theatre will also have a puppet museum to display Upfront's own puppet collection, together with puppets loaned from other collections.
Many people have already enjoyed the puppet shows held in a converted space at the Gallery over the last seven years, so the new theatre will be eagerly awaited and a great visitor attraction for Eden.
