Come and see for yourself the beginnings of the restoration of over 121acres of abandoned gardens at Lowther Castle near Penrith. Closed for 70 years, the gardens are now open to the public as part of an exciting restoration project to transform the imposing remains of the Gothic Castle, its stables and gardens into a destination that will attract new visitors to Eden and Cumbria.
Lowther Castle and Gardens Trust plans to carefully preserve and enhance the Castle and Gardens as part of a £9 million project over the coming years. Once finished, there will be a visitor centre in the stable courtyard, offering shops, somewhere to eat and educational facilities.
