Alston Local Links wins Tourism Team of the Year at the Cumbria Tourism Awards

The Cumbria Tourism awards were held on Wednesday 6th May at the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal.  The evening was hosted by Cumbria Tourism’s Chief Executive Ian Stephens and actor/broadcaster Ted Robbins.  The awards recognise excellence both in business and people, and two award winners were in Eden.

Tourism Team of the year was awarded to Alston Local Links, a fantastic achievement for the team and the first time a TIC has won in this category. Team leader Elizabeth McDonald said: “We are all thrilled and still in a state of shock. There was a bit of a delay from the opening of the envelope to the announcement of the winner and I think we all thought at that point that we hadn’t won because it took us all a few seconds to register he said Alston - but the award is sitting on the counter so it must be true!”

Another Eden winner was Bird of Prey Workshops, Silverband Falconry, near Penrith who scooped the Tourism Experience Award (Sponsored by Natural Economy Northwest.)  www.silverbandfalconry.co.uk

Congratulations should also be given to Little Salkeld Water Mill, Penrith who received a Commendation in the Taste of Cumbria Award of the Year category (Sponsored by CheethamBell JWT.)  http://www.organicmill.co.uk

The winner in each category receives a certificate and an award specially designed by Jonathan Stamper of High Head Sculpture Valley, Ivegill, Carlisle.  Peter Mearns of the NWDA said: “These awards recognise and reward the best of Cumbria’s tourism industry and I’d like to offer my congratulations to all of the winners.”
