If you are concerned about a vehicle (or caravan) that appears to have been parked in the same position for a period of time and you think it has been abandoned you may report it.

To report a vehicle:

  • Contact: Police Control Room

To tell us all the necessary details you can either:

What We Do

  • Respond to complaints and representations regarding abandoned vehicles and initiate statutory action to secure their removal on direction of the Police.
  • Reports from the public involving vehicles abandoned are initially reported to the Police telephone number 01768 891999 - who will initiate an investigation into the ownership and status of the vehicle. If their enquires indicate that the vehicle may have been abandoned the Police contact the Council with a written request for action to secure its removal.
  • Where a vehicle is considered by the Council to be abandoned the Council may issue a statutory notice to the vehicle. On expiry of the stipulated time period on a statutory notice the vehicle will be removed for disposal.
  • The Council may recover costs incurred in carrying out the disposal from land owners or the owner responsible for abandoning the vehicle.
  • The council may also recover costs incurred in removing, storing and disposing from the owners or the owner responsible for abandoning the vehicle.
