Gritting and salting roads

The Highways Agency is resposible for gritting the M6 and A66.

All other roads are the responsibility of Cumbria Highways.

When icy conditions are forecast roads will be gritted by 8am whenever possible. 

It is not usual to grit other roads but if there is heavy snow Cumbria Highways will aim to clear at least one route to each community once priority roads are cleared.
