Abandoned Vehicle

If you are concerned about a vehicle that appears to have been parked in the same position for a period of time and you think it has been abandoned you may report it.

To tell the Council all the necessary details complete the online Abandoned Vehicle Report form or print and complete a copy of the Abandoned Vehicle Report form (PDF: 23Kb / 1 page) and return to the address at the bottom of the form.

What We Do

  • Respond to complaints and representations regarding abandoned vehicles and initiate statutory action to secure their removal on direction of the Police.
  • Reports from the public involving vehicles abandoned are initially reported to the Police telephone number 01768 891999 - who will initiate an investigation into the ownership and status of the vehicle. If their enquiries indicate that the vehicle may have been abandoned the Police contact the Council with a written request for action to secure its removal.
  • Where a vehicle is considered by the Council to be abandoned the Council may issue a statutory notice to the vehicle. On expiry of the stipulated time period on a statutory notice the vehicle will be removed for disposal.
  • The Council may recover costs incurred in carrying out the disposal from land owners or the owner responsible for abandoning the vehicle.
  • The council may also recover costs incurred in removing, storing and disposing from the owners or the owner responsible for abandoning the vehicle.
