Historic Environment Conservation

Eden boasts a wealth of historic buildings, structures, landscapes and areas and a rich cultural heritage spanning the last 6,000 years. This helps to make Eden an enjoyable place to live and such a fascinating place to visit.

We are proud of our historic environment and want to conserve it. Outside of the National Park, over 15% of all our buildings are defined as historic, ie they are listed buildings and/or in a designated conservation area.

Indicator (in Eden outside of the Lake District National Park) Status Number of Entries

There are many other fine buildings in Eden that were built before 1919 using traditional construction techniques that are substantially different from those we use today. Find out more about various aspects of traditional buildings by looking on Useful Conservation Links.
