In Autumn of 2005, we invited you to comment on the Issues and Options for new development in Eden. This was the first version of the Core Strategy, which is a document setting out the broad picture of how the future of the District will evolve.

Preferred Options Stage
We carefully analysed the comments received on the first stage of consultation, and then, where feasible, changed it to put in your views on how the Plan should be developed. We consulted on this Preferred Options document from 27 November 2006 to 12 January 2007. We considered all the representations we received on this version of the document and made appropriate modifications. Another version was then prepared called the 'submission' version.

Submission Stage
The Core Strategy Submission DPD was approved by Council in June. The document was available for consultation for two six week periods running from Monday 22 September to Friday 31 October 2008 and Monday 9 February to Friday 20 March 2009.
On Thursday 30 April 2009 the Core Strategy DPD was submitted to the Secretary of State. An inspector from the Planning Inspectorate will consider all the representations at an independent public examination in September 2009 to determine if the Core Strategy should be amended.
Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment
Eden District Council produced a Sustainability Appraisal / Strategic Environmental Assessment (SA/SEA) Scoping Report to inform the Core Strategy Development Plan Document of the Eden Local Development Framework. A further SA/SEA report (August 2006) has been prepared by Entec to inform later versions of the Core Strategy. Further information is available about Sustainability Appraisals.
