Sports Development

The Council’s Sports Development service is delivered inline with its Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2009-2014. The strategy seeks to make Eden more active, healthy and successful through sport and physical activity.

The general aim of the Sport and Active Recreation strategy is to increase participation and improve standards in sport and active recreation by enabling everyone in Eden to enjoy sport and physical activity as a part of everyday life.

The Council offers a range of programmes and activities to increase participation in sport and provides support and advice to sports clubs where required. The Council works with partners including Parkwood Leisure, National Governing Bodies of Sport, School Sports Partnership and the County Sports Partnership to deliver and promote programmes of activity, coach education courses and competitions and events.

The Council is a member of the Cumbria Sport Partnership which is one of 49 sub regional partnerships operating across England funded through Sport England. In partnership we are committed to working together to increase the number of people participating in Sport and Physical Activity across Cumbria.
