'In Memory'

'In Memory' is an exhibition of works by the Cumbrian artist Julian Longcake. Julian's work deals with the themes of memory, time and place.

He works with a variety of media, including reclaimed materials and discarded objects to produce his pieces. The pieces range from large scale collages about the sea and journeys, to installation work focussing on the reminiscences of the elderly including personal memories of the area.

A lot of this material was collected through a community outreach project in Eden which utilised artefacts from Penrith Museum to facilitate recollections.

The objects were presented in a 'pass-the-parcel' format wrapped in copies of old local newspapers which the participants unwrapped whilst fiddler Mark Newport played accompanying music.

The finished form of Julian's artwork, often utilising highly decorated reclaimed material, creates corresponding vessels for the recovered memories.

The exhibition is showing until the 25 May 2008 at Penrith and Eden Museum, for times see below.
