The calligraphy exhibition is work of the Eden
Valley Scribes and is showing at Penrith Museum between 20 January
and 22 March 2006.
The Eden Valley Scribes
The Eden Valley Scribes which currently comprises
fourteen members was formed in 1996. The aims of the group are to
promote, forster and educate in the art of Calligraphy and
Lettering. The members of the group, in the main from the North and
East of Cumbria, meet locally in Penrith on the second Saturday of
each month.
The meetings comprise in-house and external
workshops at which professional calligraphers / artists, from
various parts of the country, attend and impart their knowledge on
specialist themes.
The group has held a number of exhibitions of
members' works in Penrith Library and the Rheged Centre over a two
day period, and in Penrith Museum for a period of 8 weeks in 2001,
when, additionally, members of the group held workshops for pupils
attending local Primary and Secondary Schools as an introduction to
beautiful handwriting and part of the students GCSE art course
work.
The group is a vibrant one, members of which are
very keen to continue promotion of the art of calligraphy in the
Eden valley.
New Members are always welcome.
For more information on the group or to attend a
