Information Notes for Applicants
Eden District Council awards grants that are designed to support local people in the achievement of excellence and personal development in sport and the arts. These are distributed through the Community and Economy Committee, which distributes funding three times a year.
What can be funded?
The funding is to support excellence and personal development in sport and the arts.
This will usually mean participation at national level or beyond for sports related activities. For arts based applications, consideration will be given to the community benefit associated with the activity.
The purpose for which the application is made must relate to an opportunity for the improved self-development of the individual or an opportunity to achieve excellence.
The circumstances of the application must be exceptional and outside of the normal expenditure an individual would expect to incur by practicing his/her interest.
Where the application is linked to participation in an event by a recognised organisation (eg a sport governing body or arts based organisation) then confirmation from that organisation of the individual's participation in the event should be provided in support of the application.
There may be exceptional cases in which individuals can be supported who do not necessarily meet the above criteria and these will be assessed on an individual basis.
Value of Funding
Grants to individuals will normally be paid up to 25% of the expenditure which is eligible according to these proposals and in any event, will not exceed £300. All grants will be made at the discretion of the Council and will not exceed the budget available.
The Award of Grants
The award of grants is determined by the Council's Director of Technical Services. Applications will be accepted throughout the financial year (April - March) and will be considered by an internal panel on a two monthly basis. To apply please print and complete a copy of the Leisure Fund Grant: Support for Individuals Application Form (PDF: 54Kb / 4 pages) .
Appeals Procedure
In the event that an application is refused and the applicant wishes to appeal against a decision the application will be referred to the next Community and Economy Committee who will reconsider the application.
Additional Information
Any award of financial assistance must be used within the financial year (1st April - 31st March) to which the application event relates.
