The Council produced the Eden Play Strategy during 2007. The Strategy seeks to inform and shape the direction of play policy, priorities and play opportunities. The Strategy was produced following an audit and review of current provision including play facilities and services. this was supported by a series of community surveys and consultations. The findings informed the Strategy and Action Plan.
The aims of the Eden Play Strategy are:
- to raise the profile of play and play opportunities in Eden.
- to meet the play needs of all children and young people
- to provide opportunities that create positive challenges
- to recognise that children and young people need and want to take risks
- to recognise the importance of involving children and young people in decision making
- to encourage individuals and organisations to take an interest in providing play
- to support national strategies such as Every Child Matters
- to ensure that play provision is effectively planned and co-ordinated
- to focus on the delivery of free play falling under the 'Free 3's' concept
The Eden Play Strategy is delivered through the Eden Play Partnership, which is a multi agency group which was set up in 2006. The Eden Play Partnership aims to work together to attract funding, share knowledge and resources to develop play services and initiatives.
