Setting an address
Setting an address allows you to see information relevant to
your property such as refuse collections day, your councillors, and nearby
planning applications.
To set an address, search for a postcode or partial address
and choose a property that is shown.
Note, only addresses within the Eden District area will be shown.
Once you have set a location it is saved on your computer
for a year. This means that you won’t have to set your location every time you
visit the site. If you change your location, the new one will be saved instead.
The ‘Reset page’ button clears the address from the page and
returns it to its default state.
My House/My Nearest
Once an address is set these tabs will show information
relevant to your property.
The My House tab will things such as your councillor, your
refuse collection day and any nearby planning or building applications.
The My Nearest tab allows you to see the locations of
certain things from your property such as schools and libraries.
Information is
grouped into themed panels which can be closed by clicking the cross in the top
right hand corner if you don’t want them visible.
The ‘Other things that may interest you’ button can be used
to add or remove these panels from either the My House or My Nearest pages.
My Maps
If an address is set then the centre of the map is set to
that location.
If you want a bigger map you can hide the side panel
containing the ‘Find Nearest’ and ‘Map Categories’ sections. You will be able
to show it again later if you need to.
Changing the map
style
The style of map can be changed using this button set.
The Standard view is the traditional Ordnance Survey
style.
The Alternate view is a much simplified one to make things easier to
see.
Aerial mapping is only available for the towns in our District (Penrith,
Appleby, Alston and Kirkby Stephen)
Zooming in and out
The map can be zoomed in and out using this slider
control You
can
also zoom in by double clicking any where on the map or by holding down
the
shift key and dragging your mouse to show an area to zoom to. If your
mouse has
a wheel you can zoom in and out using that.
Moving the map
The map can be moved by dragging it with your mouse left
button held down or by using this control.
Note, the map only covers our District area so if you try and move it
outside
those areas it will not move.
Map Categories
Map categories are groups of things that can be viewed
on
the map.
To see what’s in a map category click the category name
to
show what items are available for display. The number next to the
checkbox
shows the number of items in that category currently being displayed on
the
map. To select or deselect all items in a category use the checkbox.
To contract a category click its name again. The number
of items
being displayed still shows.
Showing items on the
map
To show an item on a map click its name. The name will
change from grey to black text and the number of items currently showing in
that category will increase by one.
To hide an item that is displayed click on its name again.
It will disappear from the map and its name will go grey.
If you hold your mouse over the item name a tooltip will
tell you what will happen if you click it.
More information is available onmost items by holding your
mouse over the item on the map.
In the picture below, the map is showing the wards layer and
the mouse has been placed over the Crosby Ravensworth ward to show the
councillor for that ward. Clicking on the councillor’s name would take you to
the relevant section in the website to show further details about them.
Items that you were viewing are saved in a cookie that is
stored on your computer. If you view the map at a later date using the same
computer the items will still be there.
Using the Find
Nearest function on the map
You can show all items of a certain type within a certain
radius. If an address is set then it is the centre-point of the search. If no
address is set, the centre point is the centre of the visible map. The map zoom
will change to show all the items found within the area specified.
The results of the search are shown on the map and below in
text format.
