Recycling Rate

Eden's recycling rate in 2008-2009 was 47% thanks to a combination of kerbside collection schemes and recycle points and to the hard efforts of Eden residents. Of 22, 077 tonnes of household waste generated last year, an impressive 11,002 tonnes were either recycled or composted.

We have established over 70 recycle points across Eden for the collection of cans, foil, glass bottles and jars, paper and card, plastics, textiles and engine oil for recycling. For further information on where to reduce, reuse, recycle and dispose of your household waste see Eden Waste A-Z.

Recycle points in Eden's villages are designed to provide a pleasant and unobtrusive local facility. Payments of £15 per tonne are made to groups who 'adopt' their village recycling centre, which involves keeping the site clean and tidy, reporting any problems and promoting the facility in the village.

Why Recycle?

Throwing things away in our refuse sacks to be buried in landfill is a waste of valuable materials which can be used again and again to make new products; recycling saves energy and resources.
