Contaminated Land

There are two principal organisations which deal with issues of pollution, the Environment Agency and us.

We have the duty of implementing the Government's Contaminated Land regime under the provisions of the Environment Act 1995. This involves assessing land in the area which may possibly be contaminated from a previous use. If contamination is present which can be demonstrated to be causing significant harm or that there is a significant possibility of such harm being caused, then action can be taken to secure a remediation of the contamination.
