Household Rubbish Collection Service

Blue bags will be collected on the day after your normal collection day with the exception of Monday 26 December, when bags need to be set out two days earlier on Saturday 24 December. Read more about blue bag collection day changes over the Christmas period.

The household waste collection service will:

  • collect household rubbish once a week, on the scheduled day
  • collect any missed and / or spilt household rubbish left during bin collections the following working day after it has been reported. Please contact us using the details above to report a missed refuse collection. Alternatively you can tell us by completing the refuse collection failed to collect report form.
  • make special arrangements for the collection of domestic refuse during bank holidays.
  • provide you with blue refuse sacks
  • sell green sacks for the collection of garden waste which may be purchased from the Town Hall or Mansion House Council Offices in Penrith, Alston TIC, Appleby TIC or Kirkby Stephen Council and Community Centre.
  • collect domestic clinical waste.
