Scrutiny work programme 2012-2013

Suggest a topic for Scrutiny

Would you like to have your say in what Eden District Council's Scrutiny members investigate next year?

This is one way that members of the public can help make sure that Eden District Council is making a good job of delivering your services.

Scrutiny Councillors look at how well Eden's existing services operate. They also review policies before they are finalised.

Now we need some ideas from you! You can find a full list of activities the Council carries out on this website. We also consider issues about crime and health in Eden. And we are happy to hear any suggestions from you (though we don't have responsibility for roads, schools or social services). If there is any activity that you feel needs looking at send us a line or a couple of sentences explaining what it is.

So what did Councillors look at last year? A range of subjects including, how the Council spends money preventing homelessness in the District; how easy it is to get around Eden if you are in a wheelchair and how the Council promotes Eden as a place to set up businesses.

Councillor Michael Holliday, Chairman of Scrutiny said, "The secret of good scrutiny is to choose topics where we feel we can really make a difference."

‘People have until Thursday 28 March 2013 to suggest ideas let us know their views. We are happy to receive suggestions either by letter to Scrutiny, Eden District Council, Town Hall, Penrith, Cumbria CA11 7QF or email to scrutiny@eden.gov.uk. We will put information about the consultation on our website and in parish magazines too.

Once the consultation closes, the final Scrutiny Work Plan will be published on- line, reflecting both the public and the members’ priorities. Councillors will then begin investigating the chosen areas and will report back their findings over the year.

The consultation closed on 28 March 2013.
