Role of the Council Leader
The Council Leader is elected for a term of four years by the Council. Councillor Gordon Nicolson was elected to serve as Leader in May 2011. The Leader is responsible for carrying out the Executive functions of the Council and leading on policy development. He also represents the Council in communications with Central Government and takes a central role in working with other organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
The post-holder is nominated by the largest political group in the Council at the annual meeting.
After being appointed, the Council Leader recommends the names of the Councillors who are to serve in the Executive. The Council Leader is responsible for delegating responsibilities to members of the Executive.

Leader's Public Surgeries
Leader's surgeries are held monthly, between 11am-Noon at the Town Hall in Penrith. No appointments are necessary, members of the public can simply turn up at the Town Hall and ask to see the Council Leader. The dates of the public surgeries are listed below:
