The Chairman of Eden District Council is the first citizen of Eden District and is a serving Councillor, elected by the full Council at its annual meeting held in May each year. The appointed person stands for one year in office.
Being a proud local I want to use my year as Council Chairman to help spread the glories and opportunities of our great district and the excellent work done by people in Eden that help make the area one of the best places to live, work and visit in the country.
I want to meet as many members of the community and businesses in my year as I can and support the work of all organizations where and when I can.
In my year as Chairman, I will be raising money for my chosen charities Hospice at Home, Cumbria Air Ambulance and in my own ward the Great Salkeld Field Trust and Lazonby Swimming Pool. I will be hosting several events throughout the year to raise money for these good causes.
I also intend to hold a concert to highlight the huge amount of talent, particularly our youth, in Eden to be followed by a county wide show in association with my fellow Chairman and Mayors from across Cumbria.
I am very much looking forward to my year as Chairman and very much look forward to meeting as many people in the district as possible during the next 12 months.

Role of the Chairman
The main role of the Chairman is to act as the non-political, civic and ceremonial head of the District of Eden. The role of the Chairman also includes:
- Chairing meetings of the Council;
- Communication with private and voluntary sector organisations across the District;
- Acting as official host to visitors to the District;
- To represent the District at ceremonial events;
- To promote public involvement in the Council's activities.

Invitations to the Chairman
The Chairman welcomes invitations to attend events in the district. If you wish to invite the Chairman to attend or open your event, make a presentation or speak at a function you can make contact as above or you can complete the Invitation to the Chairman to attend an event - online form.
Requests for attendance are dealt with strictly in order of receipt.
The Chairman likes to be well briefed about any function attended, therefore it is best that you provide as much information as possible.
On some occasions it may not be possible for the Chairman to attend. Should this be the case the Vice-Chairman will deputise for the Chairman where possible.
