Memorials

New memorials these may be placed on any grave for which the Exclusive Rights have been purchased. Please refer to the Cemetery Regulations for restrictions.

Applications for new memorials and additional inscriptions should be made via a Memorial Mason. Garden of Rest plaques may also be ordered and installed by the Council, please contact the cemetery office.

Memorial safety

The Council carries out regular inspections of the memorials in all the cemeteries it manages. Recent inspections have highlighted a  number of unstable memorials, especially in Penrith Cemetery, which have been 'made safe' by either laying them flat or supporting them with posts. The Council appreciates that visitors to the cemeteries may be distressed by the sight of memorials being laid flat but hopes that people will appreciate that this action has been carried out in the interest of safety.

Owners of memorials that have been laid down or supported are asked to contact the cemetery office and arrange with a memorial mason to have their memorials repaired. The responsibility for the repair and maintenance of memorials remains with the owner of the grave, their successor or representative.

Purchasing a Grave

Graves are usually purchased at the time of an interment but graves may also be purchased for future use. Please contact the bereavement services office for details.

Family Searches

Records for all five of the Councils cemeteries are kept at bereavement services office. Members of the public are welcome to visit and inspect these records but please make an appointment if you wish to visit outside of the cemetery office hours or if your search is for more than one name/grave( Please be aware that a charge is levied on searching the records).
