The forum is composed of people with various
disabilities and carers. Administration and technical support is
provided by the Planning Policy Section of the authority together
with assistance from representatives of Cumbria County Council
Social Services department.
The aims of the Forum are:
- To ensure as far as practicable that public and
private buildings, recreational facilities, streets and shopping
precincts are accessible for disabled people to use.
- To consider the needs of Disabled People in the
area and examine the facilities available for them.
- To encourage and advise on ways and means to
improve access to meet the needs of all forms of disability.
- To bring together the interests of the various
groups working for disabled people in the area.
- To refer the local needs of disabled people to
Eden District Council statutory and voluntary bodies to elicit
help.
- To heighten awareness of the continuing needs
for disabled people to contribute in full measure to society.

interests in the district in providing facilities for disabled
people.
The Forum meets to debate a varied agenda of
topics affecting disabled people, they also consider recent
Planning Applications to ensure applicants have considered the
needs of disabled people in their plans. Members of the Forum are
available on request to provide advice on the needs of disabled
people and how these can best be provided for, also awareness
seminars can be organised for small groups ie approximately 24
people. Read more about the
activities of the Eden Access for all Forum on their blog.
The Council is very aware of its
responsibilities to secure improvements for disabled people and the
elderly to enable them to lead as full a life as possible in the
district. The Access Officer has been appointed to assist in
whatever ways are possible to help the Council in serving those who
require the kinds of assistance expected under 'access for
all'.
