Eden Tourism

According to the 2013 STEAM research figures the Eden District benefited from an increase on the number of visitors, their spend and the number of FTE (full time equivalent jobs) supported by Tourism:

  • 4.26 million visitors (up 3.2% on 2012)
  • A massive £251.8 million (up 7.8% on 2012) spent by visitors
  • Tourism Supported 3,898 FTE (Full time equivalent) jobs (up 4.3% on 2012)

Eden Tourism acknowledges the importance of tourism to the economy of Eden and carries out a variety of activities to help sustain and attract more visitors to the area. These include:

  • Marketing and promoting Eden as a holiday destination
  • Producing marketing literature including the Eden Visitor Guide, a complete set of Eden Cycling leaflets and town mini guides for Penrith, Appleby, Kirkby Stephen, Orton and Tebay and Alston Moor
  • Worked in partnership with Northern Print Distribution (NPD) to produce an 2014 Eden Attractions leaflet - part of their 'Great Days Out' series
  • A website of tourism information that can be visited at www.visiteden.co.uk including an online booking option for accommodation
  • Send a monthly visitor e-newsletter with news, events and special offers
  • Eden's Tourism service also offers advice and support to new and expanding tourism businesses
  • Small tourism marketing grants available
  • Work with local tourism businesses to encourage participation in Quality Assurance Schemes
  • We have a close working relationship with members of the local tourism trade through the establishment of the Eden Tourism Network
  • Plan and organise the (now annual) Eden Tourism Summit with key speakers from national and international tourism related organisations
  • Keep local tourism businesses up to date with our tourism work via a regular Eden Tourism Newsletter
  • Use social media - Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+ to promote Eden locally and nationally
  • Work in partnership with a large number of organisations including Cumbria Tourism to provide additional promotional opportunities
  • Take part in events to launch English Tourism Week for Eden
  • Operate one and part fund two Tourist Information Centres throughout Eden. Plus support the work of the Upper Eden Visitor Centre, Kirkby Stephen
