The figure below details the forecast for Eden's workforce composition in 2006. As can be seen, Eden's workforce is forecast to continue to be concentrated in the agricultural, distribution and public administration sectors. In 2006, the agricultural sector alone is forecast to account for approximately 8.9% of Eden's workforce. This compares with forecast averages of 5.4% across Cumbria, 0.9% across the North West, and 1.5% across the UK.

Conversely, Eden's workforce is forecast to continue to be under-represented in manufacturing, banking, finance and insurance, and public administration, education, and health in comparison with County, regional and UK averages in 2006.

The figure below shows the forecast for Eden's occupational structure in 2006. Managers and administrators are forecast to account for 22.4% of Eden's workforce by 2006, significantly higher than forecast averages across the County (16.6%), North West (14.5%), and UK (16.9%). The high proportion of managers and administrators in Eden's workforce can be partly explained by the dominance of the agriculture sector, which tends to have relatively high incidence of self-employment.

Workforce representation in Eden's professional, associate professional, and clerical occupations is forecast to be lower than averages across the County, North West, and the UK by 2006. These occupations are forecast to account for 26.2% of Eden's workforce in 2006, compared with 30.3% across the County, 37.9% across the North West, and 37.7% nationally.
