Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE)

The Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) is a package of funds aimed at stimulating rural development. The Programme will run until 2013. Most of the original allocation of £8 million is already subject to approved bids. Those with an interest in applying must do so immediately to stand any chance of accessing the remaining funding to 2013.

The RDPE is jointly funded by the Government and the EU through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. North West Regional Development Agency is managing the delivery of the RDPE and, in Cumbria, it is delivered by Cumbria County Council through two local action groups covering the 'Fells and Dales'; and the 'Solway, Border and Eden' area.

Who is it meant to benefit?

  • Farmers, farming families and foresters.
  • Local farming organisations such as cooperative groups.
  • Other eligible businesses operating in rural areas.
  • Locally based voluntary organisations and community groups.
  • Local partnerships such as market town partnerships, community planning groups or similar.
